An exhibition in Gallery I, September 26 – October 30, 2026
Artist Reception: Saturday September 26, 2pm-4pm
From September 26 to October 30, Sivarulrasa Gallery is delighted to present ANN-MARIE BROWN: BECOMING, an evocative body of work in encaustic and oil by British Columbia-based artist Ann-Marie Brown.
The works in “Becoming” are inspired by the artist’s exploration of the complexities of human nature and the imperfections of the real world. Her preferred medium is encaustic and oil, which allows her to create works that are lush, poetic, and raw at the same time. “Encaustic is tricky and the marks that build up on the canvas while the painting is being fought for have a value, like scars and wrinkles on a person,” she says. “They are the story of becoming, written on the body.”
Ann-Marie Brown’s work has been exhibited across Canada and the United States and was recently selected for inclusion in the 2024 High Button Press Featured Artist Masters Series. Residencies have allowed her to work in studios internationally, most recently during an extended residency in Helsinki awarded by the Artists’ Association of Finland. Her paintings have been published in numerous journals and featured in films. Works are held in private, public, and corporate collections including the Senvest Collection, the Woman’s Art Museum of Canada (Edmonton), The Encaustic Art Museum (Santa Fe), and Richardson Wealth Management.
Artist Reception: Saturday September 26, 2pm-4pm. Artist Ann-Marie Brown will be in attendance.
